This isometric illustration is a playful and fun depiction of a coloured pencil factory. The objective of this project was to apply the isometric technique and present a process, from beginning to end.

The Process

The sketches show three floors floating in space, connected only by glass tubes through which the pencils move. The upper floor is where the wood is carved and sent forward. The middle floor is where each piece of wood is filled with ink, and the pieces turn into pencils. Pencils are grouped in boxes and sold in the shop on the lower floor.

About style, the shapes were filled with solid colors and had hard edges of a darker variation of the same fill. Details like shadows and lights were also solid shapes, but with little opacity. This approach maintained consistency throughout the illustration.

The initial sketches were simpler than the final piece, which gained more complexity during its construction. As this work would be rich in detail, I restricted the color palette and used only hues and shades of each color to represent the direction of light.
